"On the Bridges of Paris"
Luster Vessel 1181 (12").

"Fine, classical vase of important size.
Rich sky-blue, midnight-blue and slate-blue lusters
move in rhythmic oppositions between volcanic drips
and streaks. The vessel is swirled round with
frothing lusters like an early-morning mist.

"The title is from the old French song,
and recalls personal memories of a long-ago trip
to the City of Light."

"The Mercy Of The Fire"
Vessel 1100 (14-1/2").

"The title comes from a stanza in
Edgar Allan Poe's famous poem, "The Bells":
Bells are "appealing to the mercy of the fire."
To a potter, fire is fundamentally a creative element.
I also enjoy the idea of fire as a source of
redemption or purification. The abstract flames
on this animated vase are striving for something
positive. You may be the judge of their objective."

"Rhythmic and active vase in midnight black and
iridescent gold. Touches of mocha and sky blue complete
the effect of roiling clouds in full motion.
The interior is a metallic copper."

"East River Sunrise"
Vessel 1123 (11-1/4").

"Black glaze, the color of India ink, flows
through iridescent ruby red, emerald greens and
a "sky" of turquoise and slate blue. The interior
is a deep, lustrous violet.

"This piece was a difficult technical achievement,
and sports seven distinct glazes working in concert."

vivid-red matte, which is crossed by
drips and passages of silky-and-shiny-iridescent

"A prismatic gem of a pot, exhibiting the
full chromatic range, from green and blue
through red and yellow. A mellow, golden overcast
touches the entire surface. The effect is not
unlike the marbled endpapers in a fine Victorian book."

touches of golden dew. Cloisons of mint green,
mazarin blue, lemon yellow and turquoise are
held within divisions of rich black. Iridescent
droplets of gold and Persian green occur at

"The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
An iridescent chartreuse-gold surface is
encrusted with thick, mossy-green glazes.
The effect is of an ancient artifact,
ennobled by the accretions of time.
The interior sports the most brilliant
golden luster."

"Comet trails of lemon yellow and electric blue
chase each other around this brilliant vase.
Streaks and droplets of iridescent gold follow suit,
completing an effect that is almost fluorescent,
yet highly melodious. The interior is a metallic copper."
